It’s great we can finally play Diablo 2: Resurrected on a number of different systems such as PC, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, and PlayStation but the chance to play it with our friends across those systems is more limited than we would like. Blizzard has already made it clear that players will have access to cross-progression.

No matter what platform you’re playing on, you’ll be able to transfer your characters and loot from one platform to another. To do so, you’ll need to have your Battle.net account linked to both systems that you wish to connect.

While Diablo II Resurrected brings back cooperative play, it does implement limited cross-platform play at the moment. Players can invite or join with friends through Battle.net. Hopefully the expanded cross-platform multiplayer can be implemented later down the line.

Will Diablo 2 Resurrected ever have crossplay?
The likelihood is that we won’t see crossplay make it into Diablo 2 Resurrected. In a series of interviews with IGN Middle East and Eurogamer, Diablo’s Executive Producer Rod Fergusson and Game Producer Matthew Cederquist largely ruled out crossplay.

“Cross-play was a cool idea, but it just wasn’t the right fit for the game since the game has different UIs, control schemes, and stuff like that,” notes Cederquist.

The way we traditionally view crossplay on games these days is the ability to play with people on other platforms in the same campaign. Well that feature is not a part of Diablo 2: Resurrected – only the cross-progression thing mentioned above. So if you have a friend you want to party-up with but they are on the PlayStation and you are on your PC, well there is no party to be had which is a bit of a shame.

Cross-platform play as it is traditionally considered isn’t currently available for Diablo II: Resurrected. You can’t play multiplayer modes with players on other platforms or systems.
